Monstera adansonii

4 inch pot

Monstera adansonii, also known as Swiss Cheese Vine, Monkey Mask, or the Adanson’s Monstera, is a species of flowering and vining plant named after the 18th Century French Botanist, Michel Adanson. This popular, easy to grow houseplant amongst plant collectors belongs to the popular Araceaea family and is endemic (or naturally occurring) to several places in Central and South America, including the West Indies. While there are forms of Monstera adansonii in cultivation, like the widely seen M. adansonii (Wide Form) and M. adansonii (Narrow Form or M. friedrichsthalii), this particular form appears more oval in shape with significantly more holes in its leaves known as fenestration. This evolutionary trait is believed to help it withstand stormy, high winds or as a way for the leaves to spread out to capture more light to pass through its foliage in a dense jungle.

Plant Care

Light: bright, indirect light for 6-10 hours a day

Water: weekly waterings when soil becomes dry; plants thrive with ambient humidity

Fertilizer: if light and temperatures are optimally sustained, plant can be regularly fertilized year round

Potting medium: well drained; suggested Potted Elephant’s Aroid Mix

Habit: will happily trail out of its pot or will develop larger leaves if allowed to climb
