Sarracenia hybrid seedling
2 inch pot
Buyer will receive grower’s choice of select hybrids. We will work to honor color requests.
The increasingly popular Sarracenia hybrid is native to North America. Since these are hybrids bred from hybrids of species, each plant received is unique with subtle characteristics to discover. After 70 million years of being the prey, these plants evolved their revenge on the very bugs that used to eat them. With vivid colors and sweet nectar, they lure bugs that slip from secretations at the mouth of the plant down into a pool of digestive juices inside the pitcher tube. No matter how hard the bug tries to climb out, the downward facing hairs inside the pitcher make escape impossible. Over the course of the summer, the Sarracenia’s pitcher will fill with the undigested exoskeletons of its prey, making fertilizing unnecessary.
Source: These hybrids were locally cultivated by Carson of American Pitcher Plant.
Light: Full Sun
Water: Standing water, bog
Fertilizer: None, they will attract bugs
Potting medium: well drained inert potting medium; suggested Potted Elephant’s Cacti and Succulent Potting Mix
Habit: will bloom in early spring and then move into foliage development. As the traps do their job to collect bugs, they will rescind and can be trimmed. Foliage will last through a few freezes. Perennial.
So far so good
Just got my plant in a few weeks ago. At first he looked a little parched from the delivery but he’s been holding up. Even being in a windowsill he hasn’t dropped any leaves.
Plant was healthy and looked very good! Packing was impeccable as always!
